As the name implies, International Financial Reporting Standards are primarily concerned with providing useful information to financial statement users. For people accustomed to accounting standards focused on procedures (accounting standards that establish charts of account, prescribe accounting procedure or define financial statements), IFRS’s principles based approach can be difficult to translate into day-to-day practice. Fortunately, as the name implies, IFRS Policies and Procedures does not deal in grand themes. Instead of an abstract discussion about the essence of financial reporting, this book talks about bread and butter, debits and credits. Obviously, IFRS Policies and Procedures is not a substitute for IFRS. Nor is it intended to be. This publication is intended as a companion to IFRS showing, in example form, how to translate principles into procedures in the simplest way possible.
