Summer of 1911, Kyiv. Former detective and now exile Platon Chechel is carrying out a delicate assignment in Poltava. But he is detained in the city by another case - not criminal, but mystical. Something strange is happening in the region. The weather is getting nastier, cattle are dying en masse, a young local landlady is accused of being a witch, but the reason behind all this is someone else’s old family sins - bloody retribution for which is inevitable. What devils are hiding in this swampy corner of Poltava region? Why do the locals smile and sharpen knives at strangers at the same time? It is a matter of honor for Plato to find the truth… and of survival.
