Vladimír Novák je dnes považován za jednoho z nejvýznamnějších představitelů tzv. nové figurace sedmdesátých let. Ve svých obrazech se znovu a znovu pokouší vyjádřit existenciální situaci člověka, klesajícího pod tíhou doby a osudu. Retrospektivní katalog, vydaný u příležitosti prestižní výstavy v Míčovně Pražského hradu, nám umožňuje sledovat proměny jeho práce od studií na pražské AVU na začátku sedmdesátých let až dodnes. Uvádí jej texty Josefa Hlaváčka, Aleny Potůčkové a Ivana Neumanna, na závěr jsou připojena fakta o umělci.

Vladimír Novák is considered as one of the most influential representatives of the so-called ‘new figuration' in the 1970s. In his paintings, he tries to express the existential situation of a man tormented by the times and fate. A retrospective catalogue published on the occasion of a great exhibition in the Ball Room of the Prague Castle allows us to see the evolution of his work since his study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague at the beginning of the 1970s up to the present. It is introduced by the texts by Josef Hlaváček, Alena Potůčková and Ivan Neumann; information about the author is placed at the end of the book.

Valdimír Novák gilt heute als einer der bedeutendsten Repräsententen der sogenannten neuer Figuration der 70-er Jahre. Mit seinen Bildern versucht er immer wieder, die existentielle Situation des Menschen, der unter der Last der Zeit und des Schicksals sinkt, zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Der retrospektive Katalog, der anläßlich einer repräsentativen Ausstellung im Ballhaus der Prager Burg erscheint, läßt uns Veränderungen seiner Arbeit seit dem Studium auf der Akademie der bildenden Kunst in Prag Anfang der 70-er Jahre bis heute verfolgen. Die Texte stammen von Josef Hlaváček, Alena Potůčková und Ivan Neumann, am Ende sind die Fakten über den Künstler angeführt.
