Od roku 1967 se každé čtyři roky v Praze koná Pražské quadrienále, asi nejvýznamnější přehlídka svého druhu na světě. Obsáhlá publikace sleduje nejen její proměny v průběhu posledních třiceti let, ale jejím prostřednictvím i proměny scénografie a divadelního myšlení vůbec. Kniha je členěna do kapitol podle jednotlivých ročníků, následuje stati věnované podobě české scénografie v tomto období a vývoji divadelní architektury. Na závěr jsou zařazeny statistické údaje Quadrienále a seznam inscenací, které byly citovány v textu. Publikaci doprovází množství barevných fotografií.

Every fourth year since 1967 The Prague Quadriennale, probably the most significant display of the world scenography, takes place in the capital of the Czech Republic. A comprehensive book deals not only with the changes it came through during the last thirty years but also the changes of the scenography and scenic thinking as such. The book is divided into the chapters according to each year of the display; this being followed by the the essays dedicated to the form of the Czech scenography in this period and the development of theatrical architecture. The book is closed by the statistic data of the Quadriennale and the list of inscenations quoted in the text. The book includes a great number of colour photographs.

Seit 1967 findet in Prag jede vier Jahre die Quadriennale, die wohl bedeutendste Veranstaltung der Weltszenografie. Diese umfassende Publikation verfolgt nicht nur ihre Entwicklung in den letzten 30 Jahren, sondern zeigt vor dem Hintergrund dieser Entwicklung auch die Veränderungen der Szenografie und der zusammenhängenden Theorie. Jedem Jahrgang ist ein Teil des Buchs gewidmet, dann folgen Texte, die sich mit der tschechischen Szenografie in der jeweiligen Periode und der Entwicklung der Theaterarchitektur befassen. Am Ende sind statistische Angaben der Quadriennale und Verzeichnis der im Text erwähnten Inszenierungen. Die Texte werden von einer Menge von Farbfotos begleitet.
